Project Setup

This post will guide you through the process of setting up a project using AutoCAD Architecture or MEP 2010 and, to a limited extent, earlier versions. Using “Projects” is particularly advantageous when you’re dealing with multi-story buildings.

The Project Functionality allows you to have a one-stop place to create, edit and track non-graphical data about a project. It also allows you to track and control graphical information such as number of stories and their elevation. Here you can also organize your building by splitting it up into sections or wings called divisions.

To get started with Projects type ProjectBrowser at the command prompt, which will display the Project Browser Dialog Box.

The Project Browser is the central location from which you can create, edit and manage projects.

You must first decide where the project will be stored. This is important because you need to know its location in order to back it up or to move it to another computer. Note your default Project File Location by clicking on the drop down list as shown in the figure below:

If you’re working on a shared computer, such as the ones in a public classroom or computer lab, it will be wise to create and store your project files on removable media so you can keep your data safe. Once you have selected the location to store your files, please click the New Project Icon, found near the bottom, left-hand corner of the dialog box as show below:
